How can I communicate better and more efficiently?

Communicacion Training Course Workshop English Barcelona ViennaEvery day we communicate via more and more channels: email, SMS, Messenger, Skype, Facebook, Whatsapp, Line, and so on. We are also communicating at all times: In the workplace, in the car, on the underground, on the street, while we are eating and sometimes even in the bathroom. Despite all this effort to communicate, it seems that we understand each other rather less than more. How can that be?

The huge majority of all these communication channels reduce our messages to simple text. Admitted, there are emoticons, but still we neither hear the tone of voice, nor see the facial expression or body language of our communication partner. But if we paid attention to scientific research we would know that visual signals transfer between 60% and 90% of the meaning of a message!

When we try to coordinate people, to reach a mutual understanding on a topic, to negotiate, to motivate, to give feedback or even to criticize somebody, these auditive and visual channels are THE key to understanding. But for various reasons, mainly an imagined efficiency, we decide to use plain text messages.

Our communication courses focus on rediscovering the importance of this audiovisual information, on paying attention to the different aspects of a message and on body language. Reflecting the advantages and disadvantages of the different communication channels and choosing the most appropriate one for each message is usually another focal point. Last but not least the active management of our availability (Mobile phone, Skype, Messenger) is another tool for communicating more effectively without getting lost in the constant flow of communication.
